As part of their ongoing work on wartime diaries, Form VI were challenged this week to plan a birthday party using only items allowed under WWII rationing.
With weekly limits on sugar, butter, and eggs, they had to think creatively to design menus that were both realistic and celebratory. From eggless sponge cakes to homemade lemonade with minimal sugar, the girls researched some historical recipes to recreate the spirit of a 1940s party. The challenge offered a powerful lesson in resourcefulness and resilience as the girls discovered how families made the most of what little they had.
Working creatively, they presented their ration-based menus and diary entries, bringing history to life through creativity. It was a very memorable way to explore the past, one slice of wartime birthday cake at a time!Ā
