What is it like to be a structural engineer? This was a question that Form VI explored this week in science when they were given the task of building the tallest tower possible from spaghetti, tape and tac.
The challenge started with an analysis of some famous towers in London, include the BT Tower and Gerkin, before the hands-on work began with pupils working together to plan and build their tower. The challenge required a high degree of collaboration, with pupils taking on different roles, as well as creativity of thought in designing the towers. Working under pressure, the girls needed to display courage as the clock ticked on, and towers collapsed ā what do you do?
Give up or start again? The challenge was a great way to bring science to life and link all the hard work the girls have done throughout the year investigating the Universe around them.Ā
