Form I have been learning all about the origins of chocolate and the life of a female cocoa farmer, Généviève. They have been using non-fiction books to discover more about how Généviève and the females in her community transform cocoa beans into the delicious chocolate bars that we eat.
The women often wake up incredibly early to look after their families before travelling to their farm to harvest the pods, wrap the beans in banana leaves and dry them in the sun before selling them to producers. Unfortunately, female cocoa farmers, like Généviève, are not always treated or paid fairly. Form I have been anxious to learn how they can help and have discovered Fairtrade products.
The girls also enjoyed exploring Edith’s life, as a Fairtrade cocoa farmer, and learnt how Fairtrade has made a huge difference to her community.
